If you’re looking for a truly immersive Christmas experience that goes beyond the standard Santa visit, let me tell you about our absolutely magical day at Piglets Adventure Farm’s Sleigh Ride experience. This wasn’t just meeting Santa – it was a full festive journey that had all three of my children (yes, even my teenager!) completely enchanted.
Airport Check-In: The Journey Begins
Our adventure started the moment we arrived and were greeted at the “airport check-in.” The attention to detail was brilliant – we were given passports for the girls and told to get ready to board our sleigh. The whole airport theme immediately got Arabella and Evie buzzing with excitement. “Are we actually flying, Mummy?” Evie asked with wide eyes.
While we waited in the airport terminal, my husband treated himself to a hot chocolate (which he assured me was excellent), and the girls got stuck into the activities. They collected stamps for their passports at various stations and spent ages writing letters to Santa in the adorable festive post office. Watching them carefully sound out their words and decide what to ask for was one of those sweet parenting moments that makes you forget about the chaos of getting everyone ready and out the door!
The Sleigh Ride Through the Woods
Then came the announcement – time to board the sleigh! The girls practically vibrated with excitement as our magical sleigh arrived. The ride took us through the woods, and you could feel the anticipation building with every turn. The twinkling lights between the trees and the festive music created such an atmospheric journey. Even my usually-too-cool-for-this teenager was grinning.
Meeting Santa in His Woodland Grotto
We arrived at Santa’s magical woodland, where our group was seated together. Now, I’ve been to a fair few Santa experiences over the years, but this one stood out because Santa genuinely took his time. There was no rushed conveyor belt feeling here. He told stories, engaged with each family, and had proper conversations with every single child about what they wanted for Christmas.
Arabella was in her element, chatting away about school and her wish list, while Evie needed a bit more coaxing but eventually warmed up (her shy phase is very real at the moment!). What happened next was brilliant – Santa gave each child a magic key to unlock the toy shop, where they could choose their own present.
Arabella made a beeline for a vet’s backpack (no surprises there – she’s animal-obsessed), and after much deliberation, Evie chose an adorable teddy dog that she’s named “Snowball.” The real surprise? My teenage stepson actually chose a teddy for himself too!
The Magical Wonderland
After our Santa visit, we entered what can only be described as a winter wonderland. Adults were treated to complimentary mulled wine and mince pies in a beautifully decorated festive tipi – and let me tell you, after wrangling three excited children, that mulled wine was very much appreciated! The atmosphere was absolutely lovely, with families relaxing and soaking in the festive spirit.
The girls added their wishes to the magical wishing tree (again, sworn to secrecy about what they wished for), and we all gathered around the fire to roast marshmallows. There’s something about an open fire and marshmallows that brings out the child in everyone – even the adults were getting competitive about achieving the perfect golden-brown toast!
Elf Academy: The Grand Finale
Our final stop was the Elf Academy, and this was possibly the girls’ favourite part. We sang Christmas songs, danced around (badly, in my case), and learned what it takes to become one of Santa’s official elves. The energy was infectious, and watching all the children – from toddlers to pre-teens – joining in with such enthusiasm was heart-warming. By the end, both girls were convinced they were now fully qualified elves and have been leaving me “elf reports” ever since.
Finally, we boarded the sleigh for our journey back, with two very happy (and slightly sticky from marshmallows) little girls clutching their new toys.
Our Verdict
The Piglets Magical Sleigh Ride is hands down one of the best Christmas experiences we’ve done as a family. It’s thoughtfully designed, beautifully executed, and creates genuine magic for children. The fact that it worked for both my 3-year-old and my teenager speaks volumes.
What We Loved:
- The immersive airport theme that starts the experience
- Santa taking proper time with each child

- Complimentary festive treats for adults
- Multiple activities keeping it varied and engaging
- No feeling of being rushed through
Top Tips for Your Visit:
- Book early – these slots sell out fast
- Dress warmly – you’ll be outdoors for a good portion
- Allow 2-3 hours – there’s lots to do
- Bring a camera – so many photo opportunities
- Embrace the magic – even if you’re a teenager pretending not to care!
Perfect for: All ages! Seriously, from toddlers to teens to adults
Location: Piglets Adventure Farm, Towthorpe, York YO32 9ST
This is the kind of Christmas experience that creates core memories. A week later, the girls are still playing “sleigh ride” and “elf academy” at home, and those toys are already firm favourites. If you’re in North Yorkshire and looking for something truly special this festive season, I cannot recommend Piglets Magical Sleigh Ride enough.
Have you been to Piglets? I’d love to hear what your little ones thought of it!
